For many people on a spiritual journey, there are times when we feel as though we have entered a void…a place that can be difficult to describe to others, but feels empty, as though all the growth and expansion we have just experienced and integrated into ourselves has vanished! This is a place (state of consciousness) where doubts begin to
sneak in, when you begin to ask yourself if you just had 3 months of wishful thinking, because now it seems like everything you just learned is gone. And this place can leave us feeling defeated, confused, and sometimes down-right depressed.
But, fear not….
This state of being is actually the place we have been working toward. The void is the place where change actually takes root. To use a metaphor, think about what happens when you plant a seed into the ground. The seed exists in one state of being, but when it goes into the soil, it enters a period of darkness for several days to weeks before it emerges and pushes through the soil in a new form of being. This is exactly what the void is for us. The reason it doesn’t feel good to be in this place (state) is because this is the place of the unknown and being human, we are generally not comfortable with the unknown. But this is precisely the place that we have been working toward in our efforts for growth and expansion (of our consciousness).
The sacred Kybalion states ”Everything flows out and in; everything has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum-swing manifests in everything; the measure of the swing to the right, is the measure of the swing to the left; rhythm compensates. The Fifth Hermetic Principle--the Principle of Rhythm-embodies the truth that in everything there is manifested a measured motion; a to-and-from movement; a flow and inflow; a swing forward and backward; a pendulum-like movement; a tide-like ebb and flow…” The importance of this will be appreciated by anyone who realizes what creatures of moods, feelings and emotion the majority of people are, and how little mastery of themselves they manifest.
If you will stop and consider for a moment, you will realize how much these swings of rhythm have affected you in your life; how a period of enthusiasm has been invariably followed by an opposite feeling or mood of sadness or depression. Likewise, your moods and periods of courage have been succeeded by equal moods of fear. And so it has ever been with the majority of people…tides of feelings and emotions rise and fall with them, but they have never suspected the cause or reason. An understanding of this Hermetic principle will give you the key to the mastery of these rhythmic swings of feeling, and will enable you to know yourself better and avoid being carried away by these inflows and outflows.
It is precisely when we enter the void that we have the greatest potential to avoid the swing to the opposite side, so to speak. If we can embrace the void, allow It to be the master of our state, without judgment or expectation of the outcome, we give permission to our Higher Consciousness to embody our human state. The more allowing we are, the quicker we move through the void and emerge as a new being.
The void allows a sloughing off of our old skin and with each pendulum swing, we become an entirely new person. The void is the most sacred place you can exist as a human being because it is here that we have the most potential for becoming the person or soul we desire most. It is here that we are nourished by forces we cannot see, but that exist only for our best and highest good. It is pure potential. The void is our place of birth, manifestation, and healing.
I encourage you to embrace, allow, and enjoy this time you have been granted. I promise that it will be worth it!
